Day 8
These are my frustrations. I woke up this morning trying to meditate through the frustrations I have with people. I constantly feel undervalued, which is why I’m spending less and less time on social media. It’s just turned into this complain and ego boosting factory. The demand to teach annoys me because I’m constantly met with what they want me to teach them vs what I teach. Perhaps, this is partly my fault in telling them to ask me what they want. But I guess I didn’t mean I was going to teach them what they wanted, rather guide them in the direction of being able to do for themselves. Like working out for instance. If this virus is real, and people are dumb enough to go back to the gym because they won’t simply try and figure out different ways of working out, then go for it. I’m exhausted from trying to explain to people that creativity is individual. The only way to learn how to create and think outside of the box is to be put in outside of the box situations. I guess this is why I don’t teach choreographed classes or fitness classes. A) I hate teaching fitness or just choreographed classes. If I’m going to choreograph, let me do so for the stage or film. That’s how I see it, anyway. But if I have to teach, let me teach creativity. Teach people how to take a movement, an object, and or music and create something unique to them. That’s interesting. I guess that’s why I like choreography and acting. Acting was the first time I experienced true freedom as an artist. As a dancer you are told what to do for most of your career unless you study improv. And this only really happens as an actor if you have a good acting teacher. I always said, when did teaching become do it this way, vs let’s discover how you do it. I think I’m on to something. I teach by giving people ingredients and the information and they are left to create their own recipes.
